Sustainable development is one of the most important challenges of the future worldwide. The Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg has committed itself to implementing these global requirements locally and thereby playing a pioneering role in setting international standards.
Hamburg on the way to becoming a hydrogen metropolis
Creating a renewable energies cluster is a central component of our vision of the “Growing City”. We want to make Hamburg a leading city in the economic use of hydrogen.
The commercialisation of hydrogen and fuel cell technology is a decisive step towards sustainable energy supply. The fuel cell, especially in conjunction with hydrogen as a fuel produced from renewable energy, runs without emitting any pollutants and achieves high efficiency at the same time. Testing it today and using it tomorrow assures Hamburg of an important lead in know-how and technology.
The establishment of the Hamburg Local Initiative for Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Technology in 2005 created a network that brings cooperation partners together on a targeted basis and ensures the necessary support for their projects at political level. For success in obtaining European financial assistance and in attracting innovative companies, it is important that decisions on political priorities and financial assistance are taken by the responsible sectoral department. Coordination and implementation tasks, by contrast, should be organisationally separated and carried out by a private-law organisation. This step has now been taken with the establishment of hySOLUTIONS GmbH. Hamburg possesses extensive knowledge and practical experience in the use of hydrogen and fuel cell technology. Many opportunities have already been translated into concrete projects. Here city and industry are working hand in hand.
This website gives you an overview of the projects in Hamburg and the activities of hySOLUTIONS.
